Throw Back Thursday-This is the prologue to the novel I wrote last November for National Novel Writing Month. It is a New Adult book that I plan to publish in the future. It hasn’t been edited yet, so the excerpt below could change. Tell me what you think! What is your throw back?

Breaking Pointe

Prologue

Pinned to the cold damp concrete floor dark menacing eyes bore down on me. I can’t do anything but stare back at the eyes full of darkness without an ounce of remorse. The smell of stale beer, mildew, and urine is thick in my nose. I try to tell him to stop, but I can’t seem to form words. He enjoys the ever growing panic in my eyes because a wicked grin spreads across his face, showing how evil he is. I try to move, wanting nothing more than to push him away and kick and scream, but my limbs and body are heavy and I can’t do more than twitch.

I watch in horror as he runs his fingers over my right cheek and continues to trail them down my neck, shoulder, and arm and continues down, further and further. It feels like I have cockroaches crawling all over me and I’m pretty sure if I had normal functions working in my body right now I would puke.

“You asked for it sweetheart.” His gravelly voice hit me as he continues to run his hands over me. The fog that has been clouding my brain wasn’t that thick because I know I never asked for this. I don’t even understand how this happened. I only had one drink, and I never put it down. I’m not that much of a lightweight; even if I were it wouldn’t inhibit my body from being able to move.

“Stop playing with your food before we run out of time,” another voice chastises, but I can’t see whom it came from. Dark eyes glares beyond my head, and if looks could kill, his sure as hell would. Flipping his attention back to me, he grabs my hair with one hand jerking my head back and rips my dress off with his other hand. I can feel the material cut into my skin before it gives away, and tears apart, and with it I’m ripped apart.

Throw Back Thursday! Today I’m sharing a poem I wrote in a college poetry class in 2011.

Barely Alive

He stumbles through the door
Coming to be with me.
Driving from afar,
Barley able to see.

Not knowing the pain he felt,
Would be so much more.
I listen to the slur of words
Poring from his core.

A flash of memories
Spirals through my head.
His innocent face
Looking back at me.
Hours spent on the phone.
Talking endlessly about anything and everything
He managed to escape for a night with me
At a homecoming dance.
We danced the night away
Before the magic slipped away.
Time went on.
One thing staying constant,
You and I.
A rainy day you ran away,
Hiding from danger.
You came to me.
I have always been your person

I stand here now
Wondering how it became this bad.
Seeing the mess in front of me,
I wonder how he is not dead.

His eyes glossy,
He shares his pain.
The girl who broke his heart
After he gave her everything.
Sharing those precious secrets with her
That only I had known before.
In the end love lost
Leaving only his best friend,
Me.

Hours went by before he was able to drive
Promising he would go right home.
I should have known.
He took the bottle from the backseat.
Never expecting the chrome
To collide with a tree.
Not knowing what happened.

He wasn’t aware of the glass in his hair
Unable to understand where the blood was coming from,
He fumbled with his phone,
Blood smearing from the gash on his thumb.

The message I received,
Was a disjointed mess.
I was only able to make out one word,
Blood.
Fear ran through me
Knowing what he wouldn’t want to confess.
The mistake I made by letting him go.
I felt disappointment arrive
Then anger and guilt followed.
I never thought he would lie to me,
Knowing how much I Abhor
Drinking and Driving.

Blood Red Sky

I watched the blood red sky fade into darkness. I needed to catch my breath; I didn’t want to lose my head. I was standing there, stuck, staring hopelessly at what once was a magnificent city with beautifully designed buildings that would never be seen again. Ashes fluttered down like snow, as everything around me crumbled beyond repair. The world as I knew it was gone.

Throw Back Thursday! In honor of my failed attempt at Camp NaNoWriMo, right before my book publication. This is the book I started to work on, but didn’t get very far. My head was still too wrapped up in the Rain story-line, and I have been pretty busy with getting everything ready. This one will be finished, but first I’m going to get Rain out of my system, so I can give it the attention it deserves. This is the opening paragraph of the novel.

Blind Affair

I carefully step into the house taking a deep breath. I catch a scent that stops me abruptly making me almost knock over the lamp to my right. The door creaks shut as my mind speeds up thinking in overdrive. I smell a perfume that is not mine. My sense of smell has sharpened greatly since I lost my sight.

One day I was driving home from work, and a car went speeding through a red light and hit me. The glass from the windows shattered and went into my eyes, and I have not been able to see since. I was lucky enough to live through it, and for that I am grateful. Luckily, or so I thought at the time, my fiancé, and now husband James was there to help me get through the change. It was not an easy change, and I became depressed for months, but he stood by me the whole time.

My husband was supposed to be working until five, and I was planning to spend the day with my friend Jess until eight, but I came home early due to not feeling well. My stomach had been doing flips, and I wasn’t being much company, so I decided to go home early and get some rest.

It was only a little after two, so no one was supposed to be home. I heard a hushed voice coming from my bedroom.

“What was that?” the feminine voice asked.

“Don’t worry, it’s nothing,” James’ strong voice assured her. I cringed not believing what I heard.

Throw Back Thursday

I wrote this from some kind of writing prompt, I believe around 2008-2009. I need to be better about dating things…

Haily Carter lie on her bed exhausted for no reason at all. The summer was almost over, and she didn’t have much to show for it. She barley hung out with her friends because she was always tired, which she couldn’t explain because she got plenty of sleep. Haily looked at herself in the mirror disgusted. She didn’t even like to wear shorts or tank tops anymore because she has so many bruises. She looked at them puzzled and traced them with her fingertips. Where did these all come from? She questioned to herself. It seemed like every day she had a new bruise that just seemed to appear.

Throw Back Thursday!

This is the opening paragraph to the first story that I began writing. I believe I started it somewhere between seventh and eighth grade.

Avery stuck to the shadows as she tiptoed toward the cages, careful not to make any noise. If she was discovered, she might end up in one of those very cages. She shuddered at the idea, but kept moving. Her eyes scanning the area vigorously for anyone that could spot her. Her ears were on high alert, listening for any sounds that signaled people. If she were in her other form, her ears would be perked straight up.

Throw Back Thursday!

This is the opening paragraph to a story I started in my Fiction Writing class last year. It is titled The Cage because the assignment required something about a cage in the story. Naturally I thought about werewolves being trapped in cages. My rebellious nature might have had something to do with it also, since my teacher preferred realistic fiction, not fantasy.

What do you think?

Ashley’s palms started sweating as she clutched her paper in her hand. The room was going in and out of focus as she tried to speak, “I–uh–I,” she stammered. Everyone was looking at her as they started laughing, not even trying to hold back.

Throw Back Thursday

This is  the beginning of one my first stories that I started writing titled Discovering Brightness.
