Stella Rose: A Novel Paperback  by Tammy Flanders Hetrick

Expected Release Date: April 21, 2015

Before her death, Stella Rose asks her best friend,
Abby, to take care of her sixteen-year-old daughter, and Abby does the only
thing she can: she says yes. After Stella s death, Abby moves to Stella s house
in rural Vermont and struggles to connect with Olivia, who immediately begins
to engage in disturbing behavior starting with ditching her old group of
friends for a crowd of dubious characters. As the fog of grief lifts, Abby
reconnects with old friends, enlists the aid of Olivia s school guidance counselor,
and partners with Betsy, another single mom, in an effort to keep tabs on the
headstrong teenager she s suddenly found herself responsible for but despite
her best efforts, she is unable to keep Olivia from self-destruction. As Abby s

didn’t know Stella as well as she thought, falls in love twice and discovers
just how far she will go to save the most precious thing in her life.

I’m especially excited about this book, and can’t wait to read it because I know the author! She is a wonderful woman filled with infectious energy that I’m sure will shine through in her debut novel. Stella Rose sounds fabulous and like my kind of read. April can’t come soon enough! On the bright side, it will be out in time for my birthday on the 23rd. 🙂 This will definitely be on my birthday list!

Getting kissed for a birthday present should not be a big deal. Especially for Brea Mason, who doesn’t think of her best friend, Adam Silver, in any way other than… well, a friend. But after the liplock she can’t seem to get him off her mind. And she has to, because Adam is a senior while she’s stuck in high school for another two years.

Then BAM, the perfect distraction comes along in the form of a new, hot sophomore who actually seems interested in Brea, despite her anti-social personality. And with the stress at home, stress at school, and ignoring the reality of all her friends leaving come June, Brea welcomes the distraction.

But when she sees four fat Fs on her report card, Brea needs a study buddy, and the best candidate is Adam, book nerd and math whiz. So she enlists his help, hoping the birthday kiss was just a fluke. After all, she has a boyfriend now. I had been asked by several people about ordering autographed copies of Rain, so I figured out a way to sell them! I signed up for square, which will be useful for book events as well, and made an online store where you can purchase autographed copies of Rain-shipping included for the US or International. Just make sure you choose the correct option. I am also selling a heart Lego necklace, which appears in the novel. If you are interested, check it out HERE! 🙂 Let me know what you think! I hope to add more to it at some point.

excursions in baking black

Hey everyone. I thought I would start blogging about things I bake. We all like delicious treats right? 🙂

Yesterday I decided to make scones for breakfast. I found a recipe from All-recipes, but I deviated from it. Here is what I did for the recipe!

Ingredients:
3 Cups All-Purpose Flour
1/2 Cup White Sugar
5 Teaspoons Brown Sugar
5 Teaspoons baking Powder
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
3/4 Cup Butter
1 egg, beaten
1 Cup Milk
1 Tablespoon Vanilla

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet.

2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, brown sugar cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cut in butter. Mix the egg, milk, and Vanilla in a small bowl, and stir into flour mixture until moistened.

3.Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead briefly. Roll dough out into a 1/2 inch thick round. Cut into 8 wedges, and place on the prepared baking sheet.

2014-08-30 07.53.48

4.(Optional)-Sprinkle white sugar on top of wedges

2014-08-30 07.57.55

5. Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.

2014-08-30 08.16.34

Original Recipe (The directions came from here, but I added my changes to them in this post)

I needed to cook mine a little longer than I did since they weren’t quite golden-brown, but they came out yummy! Have a nice glace of milk with them and you are good to go :).

What do you all think? Should I keep doing this? What would you like to see me bake next?

What do you like to bake?

“All right, all right,” he says, smiling and holding his palm up to stop me. Tomato juice is dripping from the top of his head down his cheeks, getting caught in the smile lines by his mouth. I can feel it running down my face, too, and I should be gagging, but I’m not.

I open my mouth to tell him how cute he looks even with juice all over him, but a light ploof! hits the center of the tub between our bodies, and I stare down at my froggy loofah, now covered in red.

“Oh no!” I frown, plucking the sponge up by the froggy’s arm, then looking up to the shower caddy over Eric’s head. Our splash war must’ve knocked my poor froggy right off his little perch. “My loofah.”

“That’s what it’s called!” Eric slaps the top of his knee, getting more juice on both of us. “I’ve been staring at that thing since you moved in, trying to remember what the hell people call it.”

A small bubble of laughter escapes through my slight frown. “Why?”

“That thing is creepy.”

I gasp. “It is not. It’s cute.” My lip pokes out as I look at the juice soaking into the blue frog’s face. “And now it’s ruined.”

He takes the loofah from my fingers, an adorable pinched look on his face.

“I don’t know how you can wash yourself with this,” he says, pulling at the leg poking from the big green sponge part.

“It’s soft on my sensitive lady parts.” I laugh as his face goes red again. I expect him to drop the loofah back in my hand—or throw it at me—but he doesn’t. He keeps pulling at it as if it’s the weirdest, yet most fascinating thing in the world.

“Is it really ruined?” he asks, tone suddenly nowhere near his usual playfulness. He actually looks worried about my sponge.

“It’s like a buck, Eric.” I adjust in the tub again as the juice creeps into nooks and crannies of my body I had no idea existed till now. “I can get another one tomorrow. Maybe an even creepier one just for you.”

I try to wink, but I’ve never been good at that. He sort of laughs, but his eyes go back to the froggy. He runs his thumb over the eyeballs, wiping the juice from it. I thought I knew Eric pretty well. But as I watch him stare at my loofah, head slightly cocked to the side, I realize I have no clue what he’s thinking. And that’s totally okay. The anticipation of finding out is better.

“Only a dollar?” His eyes lift to mine.

“Or two. Depending on where you go.”

His lips purse and he nods, then plunges the sponge into the juice. Before I can smack him for that, he pulls it from the bath and wrings it out over my head. My jaw drops to my knees.

“Oh, you are so dead.”

Buy Me!

In this electrifying novel from Cassie Mae, two close friends surprise themselves by shifting from platonic love to sexual attraction.

Eric Matua has one friend—his best friend and childhood sweetheart, who needs a place to stay for the summer. Mia Johnson has thousands of friends—who live in her computer. Along with her email chats and Facebook notifications, Mia also devours romance novels, spending countless hours with fictional characters, dreaming of her own Romeo to sweep her off her feet. When she starts receiving supersweet messages from a stranger who thinks she’s someone else, Mia begins to believe that real love is possible outside her virtual world.

When the two friends become roommates, Mia finds herself falling harder than she ever thought she could. But Eric keeps his desires locked away, unsure of himself and his ability to give his best friend what she deserves in a boyfriend. As her advances are continually spurned, Mia splits her time between Eric and her computer. But she soon realizes she’s about to lose the only real thing she’s ever had.

Advance praise for The Real Thing

“Cassie Mae is awesome! The perfect balance between laugh-out-loud funny and achingly poignant, The Real Thing is the ultimate escapist read. I didn’t want it to end!”—Lauren Layne, author of Isn’t She Lovely

“Watching two best friends figure out how to fall in love makes The Real Thing a summer read of swoon-worthy perfection.”—Jolene Perry, author of The Summer I Found You

“Cassie Mae’s The Real Thing made me want to close out every social media app and electronic device I have, but I couldn’t manage to stop reading!”—Rebecca Yarros, author of Full Measures

About the Author

Cassie Mae (who dawns the name Becca Ann on occasion) is the author of a few hundred… okay, maybe not that many… books. Some of which became popular for their quirky titles, characters, and stories. She likes writing about nerds, geeks, the awkward, the fluffy, the short, the shy, the loud, the fun.

Since publishing her bestselling debut, Reasons I Fell for the Funny Fat Friend, she has published and sold books to Random House, Swoon Romance, and Spencer Hill Press. She has a favorite of all her book babies, but no, she won’t tell you what it is. (Mainly because it changes depending on the day.)

Along with writing, Cassie likes to binge watch Teen Wolf and The Big Bang Theory. She can quote Harry Potter lines quick as a whip. And she likes kissing her hubby, but only if his facial hair is trimmed. She also likes cheesecake to a very obsessive degree.

Warning: I’m a Writer

author, books, characters, inspiration, story, warning, writer, writing

I think it is only fair that I warn everyone that I am a writer. You see, I’ve had some people pull some interesting things lately, and before that, oh the stories I could tell… Which is actually my point. I write stories and the things you do may end up in a book I write. If you are a jerk-face, you might be written into a book and then killed off, or if the action is interesting enough it might be put in a book, so don’t do anything to me you wouldn’t want the world to read about. Authors draw inspiration from many things, and if you wrong me, I doubt you want me to use that inspiration, but I will. I’m all about turning a negative into a positive, so if it means turning something bad that happened into a good book. That sounds good to me, so on second thought, have at it. Give me a good story to tell. I’m up for the challenge :).

New review for Rain!!

Rain

Blurb:

Taylor Sullivan took her life for granted until she received news that would change her life forever. In a state of denial she met Kyle, who didn’t end up being what she expected. She wasn’t able to escape her new reality, but with his friendship, just maybe she could survive it.

Melanie’s 3.5 Star Review:

I am a true believer that people come into our lives at the right time for a reason. In Rain by Christie Cote, Kyle comes into Taylor’s life just when she needs him most.

What defined this book for me was how unique Kyle and Taylor’s relationship developed. While most books introduce the tragedy behind the story towards the latter of the book, Christie delivers the bad news well ahead of the game and from there develops a once in a lifetime love between the protagonists…

How people find me…

Yesterday I saw a video that Colleen Hoover posted about how people find her website with search terms. Some of the ones that she shared were quite hilarious! That prompted me to go look at the search terms that people used to get on my blogs. I started with this one, my author website, which yielded one interesting one, “guy sitting on a bench with a message or quotation pictures pictures.” Okay, so I think the quote part must have triggered that one. Then I moved on to my review blog.  Apparently 806 people were referred to my blog by using the search term “Demons.” I’m not quite sure what that says about my review blog. The last was my old writing blog, which mostly had poetry on it. The oddest search on that was, “the vibration of words cling.” I don’t even know what to say about that. How that resulted in my blog is one big mystery. Maybe because I use words to write? I found this entertaining and plan to pay more attention to this in the future. Do you have a blog? Well if you are looking for some entertainment, go check out what people search to find you! Feel free to leave a comment and share the craziest search you discover!

Cancer: Be Aware

Okay, I want to talk about the topic of cancer awareness. Most of you have probably had cancer touch your lives one way or another, right? Whether you, or a friend, significant other, family member,or a co-worker had cancer… The possibilities are endless of how cancer may have touched your life. Cancer has touched my life in different ways too, my grandfather has beaten cancer several times, my grandmother died from bone cancer, my uncle had skin cancer, and my friend’s mom is battling cancer now. The first time it knowingly affected me before I knew much about it was in middle school. There was a boy, Garnet, who I never met that fought leukemia and lost. I had just moved to town and I sat at his desk because it was the only one open. When the teachers told us he passed away, even though I didn’t know him, it made a mark in my life that I will always remember. It affected me.

The mind boggling thing is that there are so many types of cancer, but we mostly only hear about one. Breast cancer. The awareness for breast cancer is amazing! Seriously, it is not a bad thing at all. I LOVE that there is so much awareness for Breast cancer, there is an awareness month in October, people wear pink to show their support, there are fundraisers, marathons and all kinds of stuff that is well advertised, but my only issue is, why not for other cancers? Why can’t we turn the world all the other colors out there to show support for the other cancers that brave people are battling every day? Yes, there are marathons for some of them, and fundraisers, but they aren’t widely known about compared to when it is about Breast Cancer. We should change that, we should take the time to spread the word about other types of cancers people are facing and wear those colors too. Only we can make a difference. A difference was made for breast cancer, now let’s do it for all of the others! Most people are aware that October is breast cancer awareness month, but the other awareness months come and go and most don’t even know it. I honestly don’t usually realize it. I rarely see posts on social media, or anywhere else for that matter, for other awareness months. When I did a search on cancer awareness, breast cancer and pink ribbons were the top results. Go breast cancer! You are doing something right!

I have been watching a new ABC Family show called Chasing Life, which follows a young girl in her twenties who is diagnosed with leukemia. It is the first show like it that I have seen and it is refreshing. The first time I saw it advertised, I knew I had to watch it, and now the summer finale is around the corner and I’m emotionally invested. It is a really great show and I love that it is out there and I hope it will bring more awareness.

I have been intrigued by cancer since a young age, which probably sounds weird. I think part of that intrigue is the amazing strong people that go through it and fight the illness. Cancer is complex and different for each person, which is interesting in itself, but I would like to see the day that there is a cure for all cancers, and to do that, I think we need to make more noise and spread awareness for them all. I compiled a list of cancers, their awareness months, and colors below, I didn’t get them all, I know, but I did my best for this post. Feel free to comment if you notice one missing and I will add it! I would also love to hear others thoughts on this! Sorry if I kind of rambled and my thoughts were a little all over the place!
